Normally, after 1-2 years with a company, younger employees tend to look for new opportunity and jump to another company with either a higher salary or a better position. Sometimes, employee leaves a company for a better benefits, more convenience in terms of transport or work location or distance.
As employer, we have to predict the trend and has back up plans in the event when staff movement becomes high. Productivity shouldn't drop and work efficiency should be maintain. Therefore, it's always good to have a back up. Knowledge sharing and buddy training is important to maintain operations efficiency. This is good for the staff too because whenever one takes leave, there's another person who can handle the job. It's also good to have knowledge transfer and this should not be seen a potential tread to your career. Employee should see it as an opportunity because when you train someone, you show leadership and team spirit. This will also give the employee a chance to move up the corporate ladder, provided your company practice professionalism and evaluate based on staff performances.
Having said that, I also find that being an employee, one has to be cautious too with the company environment and staff culture. If you sense something fishy or notice favoritism or cronism, it is always good to stay alert and watch your back. Most people have an ideal office environment and culture and sadly, it's more of a wishful thinking. You strike jackpot if you manage to find one (yes, there are a few...) and shouldn't spoil it by making stupid mistake that resulted you having to leave the company. Stay at the company longer if you are comfortable with the benefits, environment, office culture and most important the paycheck.
