Taxi Journey Story 1

When I took a taxi today, the driver told me, "it's getting difficult to earn a living driving taxi. I always see him sleep in KL Sentral. Can't do anything because we have to work very long hours to earn the money." The driver explain that for the past 3 years earning a living driving taxi is not like what it used to be. There are too many taxis on the street and no one take taxi (is this true? Why is it so difficult for me to take a taxi sometimes...)

The driver said, waiting at coupon operated stations, sometimes they need to wait for 4 hours in the queue to get a passenger and taxi drivers require a lot of trips and long hours to earn a day's living. Every day they have to pay RM50 to the company as rental fee. In average, only 10 days of the month they make money. The rest of the month is not enough money. As a result, they normally sleep in their taxi (nap is more like it).

The situation is worse for the new drivers because they don't have regular customers to send to airport or to places. They have to drive around the streets to look for customers. The driver also added that the premium taxi is their competitors because the blue premium taxi can pick up customers from the airport. (is this true or false)

Besides that, all the stickers enforced resently cost them a lot of money. Yup..it's out from their own pocket money...at least  that's what I was told by the driver (I forgot how much the driver told me coz I was sleepy...)

Conclusion: I've never seen a rich taxi driver before. Price haggling (getting out of control) at the KLCC taxi stand, one of world tallest building and famous tourist spot in Malaysia.
