Country has bounced back from economic crisis, says Malaysia Prime Minister

The country has recovered from the economic crisis, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said. He said the gross domestic product grew by 4.5% in the fourth quarter of last year, a better result than expected. He added that the economy was expected to see strong growth this year. Asked if the worst was over for the Malaysian economy, Najib said: “Yes.”

The other developments yesterday were:

The economy contracted by 1.7% for the whole of last year but this was also lower than the projected 3% contraction.

The construction sector grew at the fastest pace in the fourth quarter, followed by the agricultural sector.

The news came as a surprise for economists who were expecting an average growth of 3.2% for Q4 of 2009.

The worst is over for the Malaysian economy and it is poised to experience strong growth this year, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said.

He said 2010 would be a year to be bullish about as the GDP growth was an indication of better times. “Barring unforeseen circumstances, we can safely say we have recovered from the crisis and should look forward to strong growth for 2010,” he added.

Najib expressed confidence that this year’s GDP could reach 5%, higher than the 4% projected.

Protect yourself online

Protect Your Personal Information
Every day you share personal information about yourself with others. It's so routine that you may not even realize you're doing it. You may write a check at the grocery store, charge tickets to a ball game, rent a car, mail your tax returns, buy a gift online, call home on your cell phone, schedule a doctor's appointment or apply for a credit card. Each transaction requires you to share personal information: your bank and credit card account numbers; your income; or your name, address and phone numbers.

It's important to find out what happens to the personal information you and your children provide to companies, marketers and government agencies. These organizations may use your information simply to process your order; to tell you about products, services, or promotions; or to share with others.

There's a new type of Internet piracy called "phishing." It's pronounced "fishing," and that's exactly what these thieves are doing: "fishing" for your personal financial information. What they want are account numbers, passwords, Social Security numbers, and other confidential information that they can use to loot your checking account or run up bills on your credit cards.

In the worst case, you could find yourself a victim of identity theft. With the sensitive information obtained from a successful phishing scam, these thieves can take out loans or obtain credit cards and even driver's licenses in your name. They can do damage to your financial history and personal reputation that can take years to unravel. But if you understand how phishing works and how to protect yourself, you can help stop this crime.

In a typical case, you'll receive an e-mail that appears to come from a reputable company that you recognize and do business with, such as your financial institution. In some cases, the e-mail may appear to come from a government agency, including one of the federal financial institution regulatory agencies.

The e-mail will probably warn you of a serious problem that requires your immediate attention. It may use phrases such as "Immediate attention required" or "Please contact us immediately about your account."

Online Shopping Guide
The Internet has taken its place beside the telephone and television as an important part of people's lives. Consumers use the Internet to shop, bank and invest online. Most consumers use credit or debit cards to pay for online purchases, but other payment methods, like "e-wallets," are becoming more common.

Most online shoppers use credit cards to pay for their online purchases. But debit cards - which authorize merchants to debit your bank account electronically - are increasing in use. Your debit card may be an automated teller machine (ATM) card that can be used for retail purchases. To complete a debit card transaction, you may have to use a personal identification number (PIN), some form of a signature or other identification, or a combination of these identifiers.

Some cards have both credit and debit features: You select the payment option at the point-of-sale. But remember, although a debit card may look like a credit card, the money for debit purchases is transferred almost immediately from your bank account to the merchant's account.

What's Your Management Style?

All in all there are 6 managerial styles. Now what I am not saying is that there are any right or wrong answers here. You as a leader need to adopt the right style to fit the situation and the person. But what I am saying is that some styles are better suited to certain situations than others.

And also, if you keep to the same style no matter what the situation this can have adverse affects from you staff and performance. So, want to know what the 6 managerial styles are and what they mean?

THE COERCIVE MANAGEMENT STYLE
Manager who uses this is intent on obtaining immediate compliance from employees. Conversation is one way. Very directive. He/she tightly controls situations and emphasizes negative rather than positive feedback. The manager wants employees to do their work exactly as the manager wants it.

THE AUTHORITATIVE MANAGEMENT STYLE
The manager's goal here is to provide vision and focused leadership. Long term thinking and a clearly stated direction. Decisions are made by the manager but some employee input is sought to reality test decisions. This style also relies on the skillful use of influence to gain employee buy-in to decisions. A firm but fair approach.

THE AFFILIATIVE MANAGEMENT STYLE
Manager uses this to promote harmony, cooperation, and good feelings among employees. Affiliative actions include accommodating family needs that conflict with work goals, quickly smoothing tensions between employees, or promoting social activities within the team. The manager pursues being liked as a way to motivate people. He/she puts people first and tasks second.

THE DEMOCRATIC MANAGEMENT STYLE
Manager focuses on building group consensus and commitment through group management of the decision-making process. Requires a hands-off style and a heavy emphasis on team participation. Employees are trusted to have the skills, knowledge and drive to come up with decisions to which everyone is committed. Manager's role is only to fine-tune and approve the plan.

THE PACESETTING MANAGEMENT STYLE
Manager uses this style to focus on accomplishing a great deal of top quality work him-or herself. Employees are thought capable of achieving their own goals with little supervision. When performance is not up to standard, the manager will do it him- or herself. Emphasis on "Doing it myself"

THE COACHING MANAGEMENT STYLE
Directed towards professional growth of employees. Manager focuses on helping employees identify their strengths and weaknesses, improvement areas and set development plans that foster career goals. Manager creates an environment that supports honest self- assessment and treats mistakes as learning opportunities in the development process.

You will always have a dominant style that you use more than any other. It's always really interesting to see the mix of how often you use the other styles as well. Think about what styles you use the most often. Are they effective? Are you a one dimensional leader that uses the same style over and over again? What could you do to develop you skills in the other managerial styles?

Tips To Be A Good Boyfriend

A man can easily learn how to be a good boyfriend. All it takes is a little bit of practice and determination to do it. Willingness is the key for any man to learn how to be a good boyfriend. Unfortunately not all men are willing to study and do what it takes to be a good boyfriend.

Most men foolishly adopt a ‘love me or leave me' attitude wherein they are too stubborn to admit their shortcomings. These are usually the type of men that bank on the frailty of most women, the kind of women who would rather die than be left alone without a man.

However, men of this character must be living in the dark ages, as many women today would not tolerate this type of behavior. The modern woman of today is more discerning. Any man who would want to be in a relationship with her would certainly have to brush up on how to be a good boyfriend in order to keep her interested.

Fortunately there are still a lot of men who believe in giving their best in a relationship. These men take the initiative in learning how to be a good boyfriend to their significant other. And in the end reap the rewards of their labor with a loving and satisfying relationship.

Learning How to be a Good Boyfriend
Learning how to be a good boyfriend has a lot of advantages not just for women but also for men. A man that makes an effort to learn how to be a good boyfriend can look forward to a better and stronger relationship with their partner. An appreciative girlfriend will most likely shower her man with more love and affection than before. In addition, there will probably be less nagging that will surely be a welcome respite for any man.

However if a man still experiences the same type of treatment even after learning how to be a good boyfriend then there is something wrong. It would be a good idea to assess the relationship at this point. Perhaps the man is not to blame and the fault lies elsewhere.

Keep in mind that there are some women in the world that cannot be content unless they are nagging or criticizing something. At this point, a man may want to think if the relationship is still worth pursuing or if it would be time to move on and probably find someone who would appreciate them better.

Tips on How to be a Good Boyfriend
A good boyfriend knows how to keep his girlfriend happy. Satisfying a woman is a comprehensive plan that does not only involve the sexual aspect of a relationship. A good way to do so is to make her feel special by complimenting her. Find what she like or good at before you do it.
Women do their best to look pretty for their man and a little flattering remark goes a long way to show her that her efforts are appreciated. It is also a good idea for a man to evaluate his own physical appearance. As a woman takes the time to look good for her man therefore a man should also look good for his woman.

To show respect for her and her family is a trait of a good boyfriend that every man should adopt. A well-mannered man is polite and nice to his girlfriend's family. Women are particularly appreciative of a man that accepts and loves her family. Communication is a vital part of every relationship. Women cherish a man who listens and pays attention to what they have to say.

There are no hard and fast rules on how to be a good boyfriend. And learning how to be a good boyfriend is not easy. The enthusiasm to learn must be present. It is also important to be comfortable and at ease with oneself when undertaking such an education.

Being true to oneself is an important part of the learning process. A man forced into learning how to be a good boyfriend can develop negative emotions that would not be healthy for the individual and for the relationship. If a man were not interested in learning then he would only be fooling himself and his partner.

Ok, do you believe or against this article? I think it has some truth in it. Personally I think for a relationship to work is being open with each other, tolerance and there should be give and take.

Global Perspective on Paying for Content Online

Published by Nielson, this is a very interesting read about how much users are willing to pay for online content. Personally, in this time and age, it's very difficult to charge a high price. Even shopping online has become so popular nowadays due to its low price compare to retails. Users confidents play a role too in the increase on online shopping. There're heaps of online magazines and novels too. Anything and everything that we could think of is slowly but surely available online. Therefore, paying for content will be a history very soon. I don't think we could get everything free online but I imagine it will be a bundle services soon.

Nic Covey, Director, Cross Platform Insights, The Nielsen Company

Will consumers pay for online news and entertainment they now get for free?

Nielsen asked more than 27,000 consumers across 52 countries, and the answer is a definite “maybe.” As expected, the vast majority (85%) prefer that free content remain free. Yet there are opportunities to be found in the details. Indeed, when asked to focus on specific types of content, survey participants are more willing to at least consider paying for particular categories, especially if they have done so before.

Will Pay / Won’t Pay
Online content for which consumers are most likely to pay—or have already paid—are those they normally pay for offline, including theatrical movies, music, games and select videos such as current television shows. These tend to be professionally produced at comparatively high costs.

Consumers are least likely to pay for content that is essentially homegrown online, often by other consumers at fairly low cost. These include social communities, podcasts, consumer-generated videos and blogs.

In between are an array of news formats—newspapers, magazines, Internet-only news sources and radio news and talk shows—created by professionals, relatively expensive to produce and, in the case of newspapers and magazines, commonly sold offline. Yet much of their content has basically become a commodity, readily available elsewhere for free.

Compensation Conditions
Whatever their preferences, consumers worldwide generally agree that online content will have to meet certain criteria before they shell out money to access it:
  • Better than three out of every four survey participants (78%) believe if they already subscribe to a newspaper, magazine, radio or television service they should be able to use its online content for free.
  • At the same time, 71% of global consumers say online content of any kind will have to be considerably better than what is currently free before they will pay for it.
  • Nearly eight out of every ten (79%) would no longer use a web site that charges them, presuming they can find the same information at no cost.
  • As a group, they are ambivalent about whether the quality of online content would suffer if companies could not charge for it—34% think so while 30% do not; and the remaining 36% have no firm opinion.
  • But they are far more united (62%) in their conviction that once they purchase content, it should be theirs to copy or share with whomever they want.
Despite the growing consensus that the media may only be able to generate appreciable online revenues by charging consumers for content, there is little agreement on just how to do that. Companies are experimenting with a range of payment models, from full service subscriptions to individual transactions, or micropayments. Among those surveyed by Nielsen, about half (52%) favor the latter, albeit micropayments have proved cumbersome to implement in the past. But a more manageable system may be no more enticing. Only 43% say an easy payment method would make them more likely to buy content online.

Regardless of what systems they choose, media companies will almost certainly not abandon advertising; and consumers will doubtless still see ads along with paid content. For the 47% of respondents who are willing to accept more advertising to subsidize free content, that may be tolerable. Yet it will probably not sit well with the 64% who believe that if they must pay for content online, there should be no ads.

Celebrating Chinese New Year in KL

This year so many of my friends celebrating their Chinese New Year at KL including myself. Surprised that they didn't go back hometown too. Well, I celebrate here because my family's here so no point for me to go back. It saved the flight ticket because during this season or any festive seasons, it's cost a sky rocket to go home. Guess these are the few good time for airlines to sell tickets.

Chinese New Year in KL is different than my hometown. It's less noisy and happenning. I hardly see people visiting my neighbours and it's so quiet. Even I feel lazy to go visiting because this is one of the rare occassions I get to rest from work. I called my friends to wish them Chinese New Year. I think it's better than just sms wishes. We are lacking human contact nowadays.

Tomorrow I will start visiting friends and continue till this weekend. It always feel different visiting friends during Chinese New Year because there's more joy and laughters around. I like that.

Chinese New Year Rush

With Chinese New Year just a 2 days away, the crowd at hypermarket is pure madness. Cartons and cartons of beer in troller and new year cookies are flying off the shelf. Peanuts filled the baskets by shoppers getting ready for the festive occasion.

Fortune plants are selling like hot cakes and I was tempted to buy one too. Luckily I stop myself because I already have plants in my house and it's not neccessary to buy. Besides beer, shoppers were buying rice, oil, ice creams, canned fruit, canned soft drinks and imported vegetables.

This is the first time I'm celebrating Chinese New Year at my house. I'm excited too but want to do it the traditional way. Instead of canned drinks I prefer cordial drinks. I substitude peanuts with healthier nuts and just clean my house without the red everywhere.

Tomorrow will be the start of my Chinese New Year holiday. People said one shouldn't work during first day of new year and the event of the first day will represent your luck for the whole year. So forks, enjoy your Chinese New Year and make sure it's a splended first day of the new year.

Multi-racial

Somehow I prefer to work in a company that has multi-racial staff instead of 1 dominant race. I find that people who works in multi-national company or a company that have a balance of Chinese, Malay and Indian thinks differently. They are more open-minded, rational, diplomatic and sensitive.

Innuendo-Belaian Jiwa

ManBai - Kau Ilhamku

A classic song that brings back a lot of memories. It's Malaysia's version of "More than words". Enjoy.

Munajat Cinta - The Rock ft Ahmad Dhani

This is a very nice song. Love the lyric.

DEWA - Roman Picisan

DEWA 19 - LARUT

A song by Dewa.

A lot of questions, no answer

Do you have the feeling that people around you tends to used you for their benefits? Do you ever second guess your judgement on the people around you, not sure if he or she is sincere or like my friend said, 'ada udang di sebalik mee'. All my life I'm facing such people and it's getting too much for me to handle.

People approach me with the following reasons:
1. my brian - yup! you heard it right
2. my kindness
3. money - I'm not rich, only average working person but always end up with a lot of debts...long stories
4. business or career opportunity

I became so wary of anyone who say he or she is my friend. I want to excape to a place where no one knows me.

Stress and tired

Today is such a stressful day. Yesterday evening I received a bad news from my staff who tender her resignation letter. she's very talented in her work and it's sad to see her leaving the company. I guess she's persuing something more important to her career advance.

Early today I loose it at one of my staff. I just an't stand people who twist and turn their way out when he/she didn't do the work. It's like a snake..and I dislike snaky poeple. Then, is counselling and decision making for a staff show didn't perform. This one is more to fixing the problem. Due to non existance of earlier performance review, it's wrong to terminate a staff without giving the proper chances. Although it's a bit too late but exntension and review have to do done properly. This is only fair for the staff no matter how poor their performance.

Besides all this, I have piles of work and backlog. Everytime I try to work something needs my attention. Mostly fixing and completing others' task. Managing this group is my toughest yet, I used to managed around 80 staff and then about 60 staff but with the current 20, I will like I'm managing 200 staff. It's a stressful and tired day. I need to drink a lot of coffee tonight to stay awake so I can catch up with some work before I go to office tomorrow.

What to buuy for Chinese New Year ya?

Chinese New Year is around the corner and I still have no clue what and how I should prepare it. All this year I would just go back to my hometown but this year we are celebrating the festival here. With just a week left and I don't want to be in the last minute shoppers group, I hardly have any clue what's needed.

I bought some cookies few days ago and that's about it. I'm not the type who would decorate the house to be everything red everywhere type so it's pretty difficult. I have plants but what I do with it? I don't buy plants that will die after a month because I think is a waste of money. Already I'm almost bangkrap with a recent purchase. Next time, I will keep my wallet at home.

Buying new clothes, well I haven't done that for a while but this year I have one and that should be enough. I think I'm going to be creative and do some DIY for the Chinese New Year.
